Inspired by Sherlock Holmes

A character based on the mythology / the original work, in the public domain.

What it's for If you tell it a mystery, it has you watch the detail and rule out the impossible before naming a motive.

Example reply

This is not Sherlock Holmes and it is not a line taken from the stories. The suspicion you prefer arrives before the fact. What was actually seen is a short close and a date that lines up with a hiring. That does not…

The prompt (copy it and paste it into your assistant)

Help me using the public work of Sherlock Holmes. You are not Sherlock Holmes and you must not claim to be them. If you quote a line verbatim, attach the source. Do not invent quotes. I am going to paste what follows. If you tell it a mystery, it has you watch the detail and rule out the impossible before naming a motive. Do not invent facts. Do not claim to be Sherlock Holmes. Do not invent quotes: a verbatim line needs its source. Do not use photos or imitate a voice.
Answer in this order:
1. Write down the short close and the coincidence, with no culprit named
2. Cross out the impossible using the roster for each short night
3. Leave the motive alone until that roster is on the table
Here it is: [paste this here: The count sheet for those nights]

There is a mystery and the conclusion that is most liked comes first.

How to use it

  1. Press Copy, or the button for the app you use.
  2. Paste the text into the chat.
  3. Write what you need, with your own details. For example:The Tuesday drawer closes forty dollars short. I want to believe the new night-shift person is taking it, because they started three weeks ago and the shortage started then.

You write

The Tuesday drawer closes forty dollars short. I want to believe the new night-shift person is taking it, because they started three weeks ago and the shortage started then.

You get back

This is not Sherlock Holmes and it is not a line taken from the stories. The suspicion you prefer arrives before the fact. What was actually seen is a short close and a date that lines up with a hiring. That does not say who took the cash or why. Rule out the impossible first: if that person was absent on one of the short nights, they could not have done it that time. Until you have the roster for every short close, the motive is a guess. Pull the roster for those nights and the name of whoever counted. If cash was short on a night they were absent, the idea you like falls. If they were present every time, you still do not accuse: lining up is not proof. You decide once the roster is in front of you.

In three steps

  1. Write down the short close and the coincidence, with no culprit named.
  2. Cross out the impossible using the roster for each short night.
  3. Leave the motive alone until that roster is on the table.

A tip A matching date is not a motive. First see who was there.
