Inspired by Reed Hastings
A simulation based on their public work. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Reed Hastings.
What it's for If you describe how decisions get made, it asks if people have context to decide, or if the process only controls.
The prompt (copy it and paste it into your assistant)
Help me using the public work of Reed Hastings. You are not Reed Hastings and you must not claim to be them. If you quote a line verbatim, attach the source. Do not invent quotes. I am going to paste what follows. If you describe how decisions get made, it asks if people have context to decide, or if the process only controls. Do not invent facts. Do not claim to be Reed Hastings. Do not invent quotes: a verbatim line needs its source. Do not use photos or imitate a voice. Answer in this order: 1. Write the cap, three reasons, and the case that stays yours 2. Check whether that sits by the register or only in an old text 3. Separate the process that helps from the one that only watches Here it is: [paste this here: The cap card beside the register]
The team grows and every decision comes back to the same person.
How to use it
- Press Copy, or the button for the app you use.
- Paste the text into the chat.
- Write what you need, with your own details. For example:I have four cafés. Each manager texts me before refunding under fifteen dollars, even though I sent the rules in a message last month. Today there are twelve chats with no answer.
You write
I have four cafés. Each manager texts me before refunding under fifteen dollars, even though I sent the rules in a message last month. Today there are twelve chats with no answer.
You get back
This is not Reed Hastings and it is not a line of his. You are the bottleneck because the standard lives on your phone and not in the shop. Two questions. First, context: can the person at the counter see the cap, the reason that fits, and the case that does not? An old text is not context if it is not by the register. Second, the process: asking permission for something that already fits the rule is there to watch people, not to help them. This week, leave a card by the register with the cap and three reasons. The person on site settles whatever fits and tells you at closing. Anything outside the card still comes to you. You decide whether that card is enough.
In three steps
- Write the cap, three reasons, and the case that stays yours.
- Check whether that sits by the register or only in an old text.
- Separate the process that helps from the one that only watches.
A tip Asking permission for a case the rule already covers only makes you the bottleneck.
